A: The Worthington Construction Group system provides “turnkey” framing services for single family structures up to 1-3 story multi-family structures in addition to mid-rise residential structures (such as hotels, apartments, condos and assisted living facilities). The proprietary WCG framing system typically offers an accelerated schedule for framing and MEP trades compared to traditional building systems, which allows owners to realize revenue sooner. Our residential operations are geared toward high volume, production based developments.
Q: What building classifications best fit your system?
A: The Worthington Construction Group non-combustible framing system generally falls into Type II-A or II-B. Type I-B can also be achieved. Worthington Construction Group can also offer a hybrid framing system for Type V construction.
Q: How many stories can you build utilizing cold-formed steel as the primary structural material?
A: Under Group R1 (Hotel) and Group R2 (Apartment) buildings of Type IIA construction, our proprietary framing system allows us to build cold-formed steel load-bearing structures up to nine stories or 180 feet.
Q: What types of fire ratings can you achieve?
A: We have 1 and 2 hour fire rated assemblies for our floors, roofs, and walls. Contact a WCG representative for more detailed information.
Q: How does our building methodology affect fire stopping and MEP penetrations?
A: The Worthington Construction Group system helps reduce fire stopping with our modified balloon framing technique. We assist with fire details and MEP layouts to insure the project flows smoothly.
Q: What sound values can you achieve with your proprietary floor system?

Q: What is typically included in your scope of work?
A: Worthington Construction Group provides a much broader scope of work compared to other cold-formed steel framing systems and traditional building systems like concrete and structural steel (red-iron). By combining multiple trades, Worthington Construction Group is able to provide better communication, an accelerated schedule, and one source accountability for our customers.

A: Yes, cold-formed steel can achieve non-combustible insurance ratings, providing significant discounts over wood frame and joisted masonry insurance ratings. Savings can be realized for both Builder’s Risk and Commercial Property Insurance.
Q: Does cold-formed steel construction fall under the same codes as wood and CMU construction?
A: Yes, cold-formed steel framing is specified in the ICC, IBC and IRC codes.
